BLACK CAT RESCUE
Black cats are the least adopted and most euthanized animals in the
US today. The goal of the PCBCR website was to maximize black cat
adoptions.
The first step in the UX design process was to discover the reasons
for the low adoption rate through research. I conducted an online
survey (not shown), put together a comparative analysis, and created a
digital probe in an interactive pdf format. I analyzed the acquired
data and then created personas, a site map, and user flows based on
the findings.
Research findings and best practices formed the foundation for a seres of pen and paper sketches. After some iterations, I created these high fidelity wireframes. The focus was to engage users by addressing their needs while strategically placing call-to-action buttons that would lead to adoptions. I drew them on computer and added notes to the sketches so that stakeholders could easily see the reasons behind the design decisions.
One of the goals behind the visual design of the PCBCR website was to temper fearful superstitions of black cats through persuasive photography, facts, and amiable typography. The evolution of the logo and the HTML layout are shown below.
The Purrfect Companion Black Cat Rescue, like many non-profits, never received the funding it deserved. At the very least, this project helped raise awareness of the plight of black cats and a handful of felines found homes during the process. It is also worth noting that the meaningfulness of the work was very rewarding.
